Some more on naming

As I said in my previous post on naming, I had dropped an email to the "new DoBoxers" (I wasn't even sure why!).  I got a great email in response, that just goes to show sometimes you should act on wacky impulses.  Here's most of it:

Hi Nicole,
I knew it was only a matter of time before you saw links to us showing up in Google searches for 'DoBox'.

I had noticed that there was a company called DoBox shortly after I launched our netlabel, and had a constant worry way in the back of my mind that we would one day be told to change our name. Now, you have officially freed me from all worry with your email...thanks!

I can't claim I have official standing for the DoBox name anymore, but certainly Netopia isn't using it, and has let the domain go.  However, this points again to doing research BEFORE you name your company - as a friend of mine said, just try naming your new product "Nike Napkins" and see how long THAT lasts!

Here are some more, and more concrete, tips about naming which I liked From Antony with his Post "What's not in a name."  Always nice to know I'm not the only person who finds naming hard!
